Top 5 Music and Audio Apps in New Zealand for Q3 2023

Throughout Q3 2023, the top five music and audio apps in New Zealand exhibited diverse trends in weekly downloads, revenue, and active users. Data from Sensor Tower provides a comprehensive look at these apps' performances on a unified platform.

Spotify: Music and Podcasts experienced consistent growth in weekly revenue, starting from around $9.2K at the end of June and reaching approximately $12.9K by the last week of September. Weekly downloads fluctuated slightly, peaking at 6.7K in mid-July and closing the quarter at around 6.2K. Active users remained largely stable, with a slight increase from about 1.2M to 1.3M over the quarter.

rova – radio, music, podcasts saw a notable jump in weekly downloads, particularly in early September, where downloads surged to over 3K. Active users, however, showed a downward trend, decreasing from around 6.4K at the start of the quarter to just above 5K by the end.

Shazam: Find Music & Concerts maintained steady weekly download numbers, fluctuating between 2.1K and 2.7K. Active users also held consistent, averaging around 150K throughout the quarter, with minor variations.

JBL Headphones experienced a gradual increase in both downloads and active users. Weekly downloads rose from approximately 1.3K in late June to nearly 2K by the end of September. Active users also grew steadily, starting at around 3.7K and reaching over 5K by the close of the quarter.

Radio NZ - online radio app showed a significant increase in weekly downloads, especially in early September, peaking at over 1.2K. Active users exhibited a modest rise, starting at about 190 and reaching over 210 by the end of the quarter. Revenue for this app remained relatively low but stable, with minor fluctuations throughout the period.
